The Third World Strikes back

May 12, 2010

I receive the usual intemperate, overblown and xenophobic comment on the latest truth that is this blog, from regular protagonist (no Paul it has nothing to do with proctologists, those chaps with their fingers on the pulse, or somewhere else) Paul North. His deep love of all those fine English traditions such as HP sauce and losing, (unless Arsenal’s 3rd place in the Premiership can be considered a win?) is charming, however his spelling and punctuation? Clearly Paul thinks punctuation is something you need to do when your tyre is flat!  He accuses me of avoiding playing him at golf on my brief visit to the UK but when I am working, I work at such an intensity I do 3 months work in a week, whilst he continues to claim a girls handicap, what incentive do I have?  He has World Cup tickets, whilst at the same time looking down his nose at  the third world, but exactly what part of the UK is South Africa?, not sure he will get his staple diet of jellied eels, chips, lager and HP sauce down there!  Finally he makes mention of the YMCA, I think we can draw our own conclusions, but the golfing expression a “Rock Hudson” may point you in the right direction….looked straight but wasn’t.

The career and lifestyle exhibition will be staged at the Pres des Arts in Valbonne on 29 and 30 May. I will be there signing hard copies if this blog, but more importantly giving wider coverage of the better exchange rates one can get from Currencies Direct than from ones bank. many other local luminaries will be in attendance, including FR2DAY, and Lucy from Red – Radish will be running the cafe, and let me tell you her home-made cup cakes are awesome!  check the website for full details. Earlier the same week on the 27th May sees the Riviera Business Clubs first speed dating event with our Swedish counterparts. I considered this move by the BRC to be very far-sighted and had made some very elaborate plans before discovering  that it will be for business purposes only. I had naively expected there to be any number of swedish masseur types offering happy endings, but alas my dates appear to be with the likes of Bjorn and Victor  rather than the Ingrid and Marianne I had hoped for.

My picture today shows the market at nearby Mouans Sartoux, where you can sometimes buy things from the same traders at Valbonne market for 75% of the price they charge in Valbonne!

The market at Mouans Sartoux is on Tuesdays and Thursdays

I hear from Steve Weston, he of the REGS Golf and the bad taste shirt, he suggests that my comments in this column may have made me some enemies and that I should be frightened to go out alone, but I tell him that I am not afraid as I have any number of disguises, indeed I have recently been mistaken for Neil Humpreys and Peter Lynn, but not at the same time!
Many of you follow this blog on Facebook, but those sad souls amongst us who wish to get this daily valuable guide to living in Valbonne can access it via www.valbonnenews.com   then you don’t have to search for insightful guide, which has been described as aiming low and achieving its targets, harsh but fair..
